King

January 31, 2010

Band of Brothers, Febrary 1st, 6:30 PM

KingKEY POINTS OF THIS SESSION

• The goal of the masculine journey, the maturity for which God has been fathering the man since his first breath—is to be a King. To wield power, influence, and property in his name.

• Before a man is ready to handle power, his character must be forged. It might be said that all masculine initiation is designed to prepare a man to handle power.

• The great problem of the earth and the great aim of the masculine journey boil down to this:
When can you trust a man with power? I remember Dallas Willard saying once that he believes
the whole history of God and man recounted in the Bible is the story of God wanting to
entrust men with his power, and men not being able to handle it. Read more

His Master's VoiceRecognizing the voice of God

8:30 AM, Jan. 30th.

John 10:27 says “My sheep know my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”  Are you listening for the voice of God in your life?  Will you recognize Him if he speaks?  Through scripture and story, Becky will share what God’s voice sounds like to her. . .

Becky Colvin describes herself simply and unreservedly:  a wife to Larry, mother to Jeremy, and a daughter of God.

See you there.

Patience my Friend

January 28, 2010

0013jeffTopic:  The Fruit of the Spirit is Patience

Facilitator:  Jeff Griswold

Discussion:  Why is patience particularly important both from the divine and the human perspective?  Why is it so hard to be patient at times?  What can impatience lead to?  Is a lack of patience an attitude of distrust in God?

His story, My story

January 20, 2010

The DoorFIRST SERVE and CONNEXIONS TOPIC  for JANUARY 23rd

Until recently, my life, my story just hasn’t made sense.  And not for a lack of trying…a lifetime of trying.  Yet, perhaps I wasn’t ready.  Now I am seeing The Story for the first time.  I am beginning to see my story in His Story.  And, although you may be starting at a different place, I know you have a place in The Story, too.  So, I want to share with you the story.  As I see it.  I want to give you a picture of The Door and of The Path.  Then share a bit of my struggle to reach The Door and begin on The Path.  All I can say is while it’s not an easy road, I love being on it and know I’m heading home.

Join us 8:30 AM for songs and a homily,  Speaker:  Craigan

Discussion right after:  “How do I get to the door?”  9:30 AM ConneXions, Facilitator:  Craigan

Miracles Do Still Happen

First Serve welcomes Rich DuBose to the pulpit, January 9th, 8:30 AM.

“I started playing guitar and writing songs in the seventh grade in Tampa, Florida. I was intrigued with rhyme and matching thoughts. I loved poetry, especially as it related to my world and contemporary subjects. For the first few years my songs followed the popular route–with lyrics about love, heartache and the like. In 1970 I had a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ and suddenly wanted my music to reflect what I was experiencing on a spiritual level.

My music took a marked turn with a decided alternative flavor. I think my music can be best described as spiritual folk/rock, with an heavy emphasis on acoustic guitar and blended vocals. I write all of my own material and use it to convey what I am experiencing in life.

Over the years I’ve come to know that God places songs in my heart, and that if I don’t sing them, or try to suppress them, I will wither and die, emotionally and spiritually. So, I have no choice but to write and sing about the God I know.

Presently, I work as Director of Church Support Services for the Pacific Union Conference. Before that I served as a pastor in various locations across the U.S”
