Lessons God Has Taught Me

2654849678_a9fe54698ePastor Joubert and Bev are speaking for First Serve this weekend, 8:30 AM.

“Our title is “Lessons God has taught me”.  Bev and I will be sharing from our heart about some of the valuable lessons God has taught us through the years.  We hope that this will challenge others to also look back with gratitude and hope at the lessons of pain and laughter in their own lives.”

Do I Have What It Takes?

December 25, 2009

sarala_24334432ConneXions Class, 12/26/09

Facilitator – Bill Littlefield

Topic – “Do I have what it takes?”

The men’s group “Bend Band of Brothers” has been discussing a book and DVD series by John Eldredge titled “Fathered by God.” John Eldredge contends that that one of the stages in a man’s life is the “Cowboy Stage.” Here are some quotes from “Fathered by God” to set the stage for our discussion.

“Men, and boys, learn by doing; we learn through experience. It’s one thing to be told you have what it takes. It’s another thing altogether to discover that you have what it takes, through some trial brought up in an adventure or through some test that hard work demands. For masculine initiation is not a spectator sport. It is something that must be entered into. It is one part instruction and nine parts experience.” Read more

The Cowboy

December 20, 2009

3376660165_30ca7a63acBand of Brothers:  Fathered by God, Session 3

When:  6:30 PM, Monday Dec. 21

Where:  Jason’s House.

And [the boy] grew in wisdom and stature,
and in favor with God and man.

—Luke 2:52 niv

BEFORE STARTING
As we begin, we want to remind you that you can presume falsely that you’re past this stage, but
be humble and don’t presume. God may have some things for you that were missed, lost, or stolen along the way. That has been true for every man we’ve known. God has more for you.

On the other hand, be alert to the ways and means God was present in your life and how the memories of events, seasons, people, projects, hardships, and joys of your past will affirm how much
God has done. He wants you to see it and know that he is involved and you may be further along
than you know.

FIRST REACTIONS
As you read through this chapter on the Cowboy, what jumped out at you—new thoughts, ques-
tions, an immediate action item? Write out your reaction. What questions are you hoping will be
addressed at some point?

Advent Conspiracy

December 17, 2009

logo_bottom_2ConneXions Class:  Dec 19th, 9:30 AM Classroom A.

Facilitator:  Angie

Christmas can [still] change the world.

The story of Christ’s birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love.

So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists.

And when it’s all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas?

What if Christmas became a world-changing event again?

Welcome to Advent Conspiracy.

Christmas as a Rescue Story

December 9, 2009

jesus_rescues_peterConneXions Class – Dec. 12, 9:30 AM, Classroom A

Facilitator – Marc

Christmas is the story of the launching of the great invasion, the first and most bold move of God to launch his Kingdom on earth, to rescue the captives, to heal the human race, and to win us back.  And it happens literally under the cover of night, in a small village in Bethlehem.

Present Truth

December 3, 2009

A light in darkness...As a candle in the darkness, Adventist history is remarkable for the fearless and continued search for truth as found in the scripture.

Where the reformation ended with a radical stand for the Bible as the source truth and the final authority, with salvation by grace through faith and not by works, history begins again with the story of a people not willing to be bound by tradition.

Early Adventists were compelled by an inner thirst for the kingdom of God.  They were humbly lead by the Spirit in the study of the Word for a present truth to heal the wounds and light the torch for their generation.

Join me in ConneXions on Dec 5 at 9:30 AM as we discuss Present Truth for our generation.

Join us at the Carlson’s Dec 5 at 6:00 PM as we turn Present Truth into a mission and message for Bend.
