Gratitude
November 29, 2009
“Today I am grateful for the rain that we had this afternoon. It meant that I didn’t need to drag the hose out and water the garden as the last couple of days have been pretty hot and the flowers definitely needed a drink. Here are some Flannel flowers that were growing in my garden. Sorry but Im posting and running tonight, way too tired to sit up any longer. I need my sleep.”
If you google “30 days of gratitude” what comes up are thirty days of photographs attached with a brief note of gratitude. What you read above was day 11 attached to the picture of Flannel flowers.
I was with family in Eugene for Thanksgiving. It was pourind down rain that day too. Really it was extended family…my sisters in-laws and family. We had a grand meal and played donkey ping-pong. I was with family yesterday too. It was extended family again…my First Serve family. We had wonderful musing and sharing. Then my ConneXions family. We shared sorrows and hope. We realized gratitude is a result of grace. The grace of God. A God of love.
If I were to put up 30 days of photographs….it would be of people. My extended family. Blessings.

Discussion Facilitator: Marc
Time: 9:30 AM
The average American encounters more than 3000 advertisements each day. The formula for most ads is: 1) You are not happy. 2) You will be happy if you purchase this product. How has this overwhelming commercial message shaped our view of spirituality, the church and Jesus? In Free Market Jesus, Donald Miller illustrates how culture always serves as a lens for our understanding of Christianity. He then addresses how scripture defines spirituality and why the scripture is still relevant in our modern culture.
The Rest of the Story…
November 15, 2009
Thank you to all my friends who prayed for me yesterday as I shared my testimony of God’s goodness. I hope it is obvious that after choosing Christ, I did fall in love with my husband again, and we have been together now for nearly 29 years! And He did rescue me out of my dark time, and for the past three years I have been the recipient of large doses of joy.
I do want to leave you with a few things I’ve discovered during my journey. Read more

After being raised a Jehovah’s Witness, Lisa devoted her teen years to drinking, drugging, partying, and looking for love in all the wrong places. Luckily (if you believe in luck), her life was snatched out of that pit when she arrived at Loma Linda University, and was befriended by two remarkable students. But it was another five years before she would come face to face with the person of Jesus Christ.
This Sabbath, Lisa shares her remarkable story of finding Freedom in the Kingdom of God. 8:30 AM, FIRST SERVE. Don’t miss it.
Here’s some more things you might not know about Lisa:
Before she took 18 years off to raise and homeschool her children, Lisa worked as an intensive care nurse. She also got licensed as a midwife and delivered over 300 babies in Central Oregon!
Currently, Lisa works part time as a nurse practitioner at Central Oregon Family Medicine. She’s been married to Jim for nearly 29 years, she has five sons, two daughter in-laws, and two grandsons. She enjoys teenagers, reading, music, running, gardening, the mountain wilderness, and communing with the King.
Welcome to the pulpit Lisa.

November 11, 2009

Facilitator: Jeff Griswold
Topic: What does God want from us?
Does he want our time, money, worship, respect or trust? We’ll look at why or perhaps why not.
Jeff resides in Bend and enjoys living every minute in the shadow of his two favorite blonds: his wife Jennifer, and his daughter Klare Bella. Less important, Jeff is the founding member of the investment advisory firm, Merit Wealth Management, LLC. Jeff tries to never miss the opportunity to ask a good question. In fact, he spends much of his time at home, at work, and with God doing just that.
Creation Care
November 11, 2009
Environmentalism has become its own religion, and in so doing, it has stolen one of Christianity’s most ancient mandates: Creation Care. Or maybe “stolen” isn’t the right word. Maybe we just gave it away, because we got so sidetracked with culture wars and drawing lines in the sand Read more

Learning from Those Unlike You
November 4, 2009
There’s a game kids love to play. It’s called Would You Rather… They ask each other all sorts of questions to exercise the imagination, like “would you rather have no hair at all, or hairy armpits that reach to floor”. It’s a funny game.
But on a serious note, with all the conflict in the world, a good question for adults is, “would you rather be right, or be in relationship?” Read more
