Theology as Music

October 26, 2009

Do you ever feel worn out from living under other people’s judgments?  I do.

I woke up this morning and asked God to lift my head, to show me something good and meaningful, just a drop of hope to start my day, Lord, anything.  And out of a universe of online possibilities, he directed my browser to this.  Oh God, how could I have doubted you.  Your interest in us is keen, so personal, so right on.  God is so good.

Enjoy this video interview with Andy Crouch, author of Culture Making (previously unknown to me).  He compares Theology–our language about God–to music, a rich language of nuance and improvisation that we can riff on together whether we’re from the Classical school or the school of Jazz.  Liberals and Conservatives can make beautiful music together.

Instead of merely reacting to culture, reflecting it or rejecting it, we are called to make culture, to lead and not follow.  Watch.  And may this video uplift your tired and pummeled soul–to try again.  To count conversations instead of conversions.

Thanks Marc for sharing this site. Not being a big reader like some of my brothers, I am enjoying the dialog and the various viewpoints presented.

Got something to say?
