What would repentance look like?
May 2nd – Tools for the Journey
April 30, 2009
ConneXions Class: Before they were called Christians, those involved in the early church were called people of the “way”. I like how this denotes a process. The “way” suggests a path which implies journey, which requires time, motion, discovery, and growth. As individuals and as a community, we are on such a path, such a journey. I am beginning to realize that navigating such a path is made easier with a few tools in my spiritual knapsack. Most are tools passed on from others…from those who have gone before like Eldredge, MacDonald, and Lewis, from those I am traveling with like ConneXions and Band of Brothers, and from the Word which is my ultimate multi-tool pocketknife. Hebrews 12:1-2 will be our theme, but Hebrews 11 is an inspiring background…come and share what tools have helped you navigate the journey.
Great Expectations
April 27, 2009
In 1900 the life expectancy for males in the U.S. was 48 years. 48 years!
That means I’d likely be dead in nine years and people would mourn my passing as normal. My son would be fatherless at the tender age of fourteen. Tragic. But not unexpected. Read more

Session Seven: Spiritual Warfare
Where is the spiritual attack against you surfacing?
Is it your marriage, prayer, sexuality, spending … where does the enemy’s assault against you most often come?
What agreements have you been making with the Enemy’s lies? Can you name them?
Have you been agreeing with what you thought others were thinking of you? Or with those sentences you hear when you blow it? With the accusation that your heart is not good? What else?
What must you do to win the battles raging in your life?

The Prayer of Exhaustion
April 10, 2009
You’ve been running all week. And there you are again. Exhausted. Caught between coffee and a hard place.
Exhaustion is the Enemy’s favorite tool in my life–to punish me for sticking my neck out–to make me believe it isn’t worth trying to do anything more than just survive.
And all I can do is pray:
Lord, I bring the healing ministry of Jesus Christ against this exhaustion, against this weight that holds me in bed, that holds me in dread of the day. Energize me Lord. Blow away the poison gas of the Enemy and let me breath fresh air again. Show me which battles are mine, and which are not.
Lord, I claim your promise that it’s possible for me to be transformed by the renewing of my mind. Take me there in Your word. Read more

Out of the Mouths of…our Youth
April 8, 2009
Today Wyatt gave his last speech for the Speakers for Jesus speech club. Patterned after Toastmasters, it is a forum for homeschooled teens to become proficient public speakers, and use this gift for the Lord. After being harrassed by other Christian teens for his views on social justice and loving the unlovely, Wyatt decided to go out with a bang. Here is his speech: Read more
